Glenelly – Chic Wine Tasting

Glenelly Glass collectionGlenelly tasting room

On radio talk shows we had recently heard a few references to May de Lencquesaing and were fascinate by her story. She sounds like an incredible, dynamic lady. In her 70’s she moved from Bordeaux France to South Africa to start Glenelly Wine Farm. For 30 years she was the owner of Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Second Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac, Bordeaux. She was drawn to our infant democracy and saw the potential of the terroir of the 128 hectares Glenelly farm which she took ownership of in 2003. After purchasing the fruit farm she started the vineyards from scratch.

The classy chic of the wine tasting room is very elegant. With little ones in tow we chose to sit outside for our wine tasting. Our favourite wine was the Grand Vin de Glenelly and we bought a bottle as a thank you gift for the wonderful couple who had been our hosts during our stay in Cape Town.

Indoors there is a very special glass collection fitting for an art museum. There was one piece dated 1st C BC, wow! We’re lucky if a glass lasts a year in our house.
