Mopani Camp – Kruger National Park

Mopani baobab

From Shingwedzi camp, we moved to spend two nights at Mopani camp in the Kruger National Park.  Each thatched chalet blended into the African bush.  A giant baobab silhouetted against the setting sun stood in poetic majesty.  A rabbit (or hare) greeted us at the chalet as dusk settled.  Cliff and Fjord played drafts while I prepared supper.

At dawn Cliff and Acacia drove looking for animals, rewarded with many sightings of elephants, buck and giraffe.  We passed the day walking the trial in the camp, swimming and enjoying a meal on the deck which looks over the dam below.

Children can be very particular, Fjord loved Shingwedzi so deeply that he cried when we got to Mopani, we could not fathom why.  Although he warmed to Mopani and had fun, for some reason it paled in comparison to Shingwedzi.  Acacia loved both camps equally.

  1. Shame Fjord sounds like a very sensitive little boy. Hope he had a good time after he settled at Mopani.
