After a trip to Butterfly World we looked for somewhere to eat, after a disastrous meal at the Jungle Leaf Cafe at Butterfly world last year we did not risk eating there again. Simonsvlei Wine Estate 5.3km from Butterfly world was the perfect place to go with small children, they had the best play area which I have seen at any wine estate.
Tables in the play area meant that we could relax and have our meal while the children had space and great equipment to play on. The kids menu had good options, Fjord had a hotdog (R20) and Acacia had chicken strips (very tender) with chips (R25). Joanne and I had a Greek Salad (R40) and Cliff the warm Asian Chicken Salad (R55) both were very good. After eating we went indoors for a wine tasting.
I was delighted to see another play area inside the tasting area, now that’s wonderful. It was the first time I’ve bothered to do my own tasting as I could relax and enjoy the wine. In the morning Cliff burned his tongue on hot coffee which impaired his tasting, his favourite was the South Atlantic Shiraz. I enjoyed the Ja-Mocha Pinotage, the Vanilla Pot Chardonnay and the Humbro Red Jerepiko which was lighter than most Jerepiko.
