Four Awesome South African finds, land of milk, honey and olives

Good value, good service and quality products give me the warm fuzzies.  I’ll share my 4 favourite businesses dealt with this week. On our return from Durban we always have to stop at the Wine Cellar just outside Rosetta in the Midlands, oddly enough not always for wine but always for flavoured coffee beans (they grind them if you wish) ... My week in pictures 20 – 27 November 2016

Our chicks are about 2 months old now.  They are so tame and sweet the Black Australorp Angel looks like a hen and Lucky looks like it may become a rooster.  Does anyone know a bit about chickens and chicks who can confirm this?  We’re pretty much just going by the size of the comb.  Actually we were told that ... My week in pictures 5/11 – 12/11 2016

Ahh after the lightning strike my week in pics took a down turn but here’s the latest. Not only will the chickens have a lovely new home soon but it was very special to watch Cliff and Fjord working together on this.  So much gained.  Watch this space for the finished product. The source of marital unimpressedness.  I was so ... Read More »

My week in Pictures 8 – 14 Oct

Whew I’m bad, so little time on Skimming Stones, so much time in the kitchen but next week may be a bit better and there will be at least one recipe and hopefully the final post about our Namaqua trip. We have been getting out too little.  On Sunday afternoon took a drive to Marievale bird sanctuary in Nigel.  Next ... Read More »

PediaSure can fill gaps in my children’s nutrition

Five servings of fruit and veg a day is an ideal theory and one which I constantly strive to meet.  but it is near impossible to achieve.  Cereal is the children’s standard start to the day.  For lunch I’m doing well if cucumber or a fruit is on the plate.  Supper generally includes 2 veg but the tally remains below ... CAMERA REVIEW – CANON SX610 HS – I’M IN LOVE

Three years ago for my birthday Cliff gave me a Canon Power Shot A810, this had a fault while still under warranty and was replaced with a Canon Power Shot A1400 which was pretty much identical.  Unfortunately the clip on the battery compartment broke.  This month for my birthday Cliff gave me the Canon Power Shot SX610 HS, which is ... Near miraculous results using OsteoEze Gold

Being pregnant at ages 38 and 42, I don’ think that I did my body many favours dishing out calcium to grow the skeletal structures of 2 small humans.  For a total of 3 years the mineral generosity was perpetuated through breastfeeding.  I don’t know if there’s a connection but I have early osteoporosis and had 3 separate joint issues. ... Inspiration and spoiling at the Kids Emporium bloggers breakfast

The bloggers breakfast at Emoyeni Estate, hosted by Kids Emporium was a lovely extension of my birthday the day before.  The thoughtful, meticulous attention to every detail by Lauren and her team reflected an organization based on the right foundation. The 3 speakers inspired respect and admiration.  Lauren spoke of her vision and fulfilment in founding and leading Kids Emporium.  ... Read More »

AeroPress – my favourite way to make coffee

It’s funny, my 2 favourite coffee making tools begin with ‘Aero’, my AeroPress Coffee Maker and Aerolatte milk frother.  We all own something which we feel rather guilty about buying.  I’m the type of person who will look at a few pieces of plastic and say, “That would cost about R20 to be manufactured,” and weigh it against the cost.  ... Some fun and a little life lesson from Snowflake and Barbie

I don’t do instant!  Instant coffee blasphemes the bean.  Instant meals and cakes are unconscionable.  My grandfather and great grandfather were master bakers and owned Pockets Tea Room (Bakery) in Salisbury (now Harare).  Baking is a tactile passion for me.  I shudder at the thought of instant cake mix. At the SA Mom Blogs #JoziMeetUp my exciting goodie bag contained ... Read More »
