Fortune in misfortune, finding Petras Country Guest House

When we realized that we would not make it to the gate at Ithala Game Reserve before closing time we were not in high spirits.  Our mood darkened as we called a few options for self catering accommodation in Vryheid and were told that no rooms were available.  Our relief was great when our query with Petras Country Guest House met with a positive response.  Relief turned to delight when we pulled up outside the beautiful sandstone farmhouse with a wrap around veranda.

We walked into the lovely house to find high ceilings, great paintings and brass beds which I love.  I delight in special touches which show that hosts go the extra mile like homemade rusks in the kitchen and a bottle of fresh farm milk in the fridge.  The children were thrilled  to find chocolates on the beds.

Acacia fell in love with the boerboels and they were so gentle with her.  The female had a litter of week old puppies, wish we could have taken one home.

Unfortunately we got up too late for the children to see the cows being milked at 7am.

We left grateful that our misfortune had led us to such a gem.

One note a car with low ground clearance would probably have a bit of a battle on the dirt road leading up to the farm.
