Gee sometimes it takes me forever to record travel blog posts. Our last stop on the way home from a very meandering journey between Cape town and home in Gauteng, was at Jasmine Cottages in Smithfield a little town in the Free State. We found our way there in the dark after supper at Buckley’s restaurant and bar. We first stopped at another guest house but were not enamored with the room or price at that place. When driving to Jasmine cottages, as X-Files fans we were fascinated to see a building marked “UFO research centre”, would have loved to find out more about that.
Don our host is a dynamic man, he told us of his days farming in Zimbabwe and how after loosing pretty much everything they started over in Smithfield. When most their age are winding down for retirement he and his wife began a new venture building up Jasmine Cottages. Our self catering cottage was so tastefully decorated with many thoughtful touches. Immaculately clean it provided for every need and more.
If we travel that route again I would love to stay at Jasmine Cottages. It was excellent value for money at about R650 for all 4 of us. The address is 7, Theunissen St, Smithfield, you can contact Don on 082 341 4873
