In 2006 we could not resist the lure of Augrabies Falls in full flood. On our trip home we spent a night at River View Lodge in Prieska. We loved the view which embraced the Orange River and left with a good feeling. Our room then was a tad over-doilied (tissue boxes dressed in ball gowns, that sort of thing). The decor did not prevent us from wanting to return.
Cliff chooses roads less travelled when on a journey. Our recent drive from Jo’burg to Cape Town took us via Kimberley, Prieska, Carnarvon, Williston and Calvinia. Not a bad idea when the festive season sees all main roads chock-a-block, and of course I love the Northern Cape.
We spent a night in Prieska and chose to return to River View Lodge. The lodge is under new management since March last year. The bar and restaurant now over look the Orange River. The rooms have taken off their fancy dress and now have a fresh, crisp and tasteful feel.
After travelling in temps of 38°, the swimming pool was heaven on earth.
Leaving at 5am meant missing breakfast but our stop at The Ark Restaurant at Williston Mall made that loss a gain.
