I’ve just watched the video of Jeff Buckley singing ‘Hallelujah’ and figured out what it was that drew me to a string of men who could play guitar. There’s the music of course, listen to that song as a perfect example, it stirs emotions. I have arrived at the revelation that more than the music, the eyelashes were my undoing. When a man is looking down at his instrument (get your mind out of the gutter) his eyes are lowered. There is something infinitely vulnerable and beautiful about eye lashes highlighted by delicate skin.
The Nick Hornby book ‘About a Boy’ refers to characters who sang with their eyes closed. In the case of the book the protagonist found that level of emotion uncomfortable. When you see someone shut out the world to absorb all the passion of music you almost feel like a voyeur, a trespasser in their private world. I think that drew me to wanting to share in their world, either that or it was just the perfect beauty of eyelashes against skin.
