The literal translation of Wag ‘n Bietjie is ‘wait a while’, if you’re on the R531 near Hoedspruit, stop at Wag ‘n Bietjie. That’s the quintessential essence of padstals (farm stalls). They call us from the flashing blur of scenery in transit, to pause on our journey. They offer up little nuggets for us to turn over and examine. Our cramped legs, stretch and flex. The exterior of Wag ‘n Bietjie is unassuming and not in the least bit ‘lifestyle’. Each South African padstal has a little something unique, a fingerprint of its own.
Most often at padstals, I have a good browse and leave empty-handed. I left Wag ‘n Bietjie with 3 reasonably priced gifts for 3 different people.
While I shopped, my children Fjord and Acacia befriended a goat and played in the garden.
* Wag ‘n Bietjie is about 1km from the Silk Farm on the R531 in the Hoedspruit area
These little gems often have novelties you cannot find anywhere else 🙂
